Hello everyone,

I'm doing the tax return for my daughter and noticed that we forgot entering the School Amount and fees in 2021. Where exactly I can do enter the 2021 Tuition Certificate and Rleve 8 for the year 2021 in the tax year 2022?

Also I cannot see where to insert the books cost that spent in 2021.

Thanks you so much for your kind help.

Hello Ramk,

You cannot enter tuition fees from 2021 into your 2022 return. You must make an adjustment to your 2021 tax return.  After making the changes you may retransmit your tax return.

To qualify, tuition fees must exceed $100 for all institutions.

Tuition fees must be entered in the student's file.

Please follow the steps below:

1. On the "Left-side menu on the Interview tab", select "Interview setup".

2. On the "Interview setup" page, go to the "Student" group, check the "Tuition, education, textbooks, student loans" box as well as the other groups required to complete your income tax return and click on "Next" at the bottom of the page.

3. Return to the "Left-side menu on the Interview tab" and select the "Tuition, education, student loans" section.

4. On the screen to your right, click on the plus sign "+" to the right of the line "Tuition amounts (line 32300)".

5. On the page titled "Tuition, Education and textbook amount (T2202, TL11A, TL11C)".

6. On the "Current year tuition amount" section, go to line "RL - 8 box A - Amount for postsecondary studies" and enter the information from your RL- 8.

7. On the line "Eligible tuition fees paid to Canadian educational institutions for 2019 (Enter description in the first field and the amount in the $." Field)". If you attended more than one establishment, click on the plus sign "+" on your right and a new field will be added.

8. Enter the number of months of full-time or part-time post-secondary education, based on the information on your T2202 slip.

The program will generate Schedule T to determine the tuition fee amount.

For more information about tuition fees, please visit:

https://www.revenuquebec.ca/documents/en/publications/in/in-112-v%282014-01%29.pdf

Please note that you can carry forward this amount to a future year, or transfer it to a parent or grandparent.

To do this, in the section "Transfer of unused amounts", go to the subsection, "Quebec Schedule T: For Quebec tax purposes, you can transfer unused Quebec schedule T amounts to a parent or carry them forward to use in future years".

On the line "Treatment of unused Quebec tuition and examination fees tax credits" in the drop-down menu, right choose the option that suits you.

In addition, the amount in Box A of the RL-8 slip is transferable via the section "Treatment of Quebec post-secondary education tax credits (Quebec Schedule S)".

However, this amount may be reduced or cancelled based on the solidarity tax credit you received. Please complete the following field. "Solidarity tax credit received in the taxation year (Schedule S L.10)".
